Eagle Nest hosts arts festival this weekend
Michael Johnstone, staff writer
EAGLE NEST — Back for the 26th year in a row, the High Country Arts & Crafts Festival will take place July 26 - 27 in downtown Eagle Nest.
Artists from New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Nevada and Arizona will once again display their wares, compete for awards, and offer items for sale to the public.
This is a juried show with three judges. Valerie Vickers, Sherrie Bennett and Barbara Ingram, all of Cimarron, will evaluate the works and determine the winners. The categories will be fine art, three dimensional and artisan sculpture, craft and fibre arts, and the coveted Best of Show.
Currently there are nearly 70 vendors signed up, working in a variety of mediums, including oils, glass, wood and metal.
Food will be a main event as well with many new food vendors including Geo’s Mobile Bistro of Albuquerque. They will be serving up a gourmet selection of sandwiches, panini, wraps and the ever popular Philly cheesesteak.
Additionally there will be music throughout the weekend, featuring flute music from the Andes, as well as Native American music from closer to home.
Paul Atzberger chairs the event for the second year in a row. “We had a really successful event last year, and I am looking forward to another great show this year,” said Atzberger.
Hours for the High Country Arts and Crafts Festival are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Chamber of Commerce has additional information at 575-377-2420.
