Vietnam Memorial hosts national reunion

BY MARK ST. J. COUHIG
News editor

ANGEL FIRE — The Vietnam Veterans Memorial played host to the 2008 reunion of the 187th Assault Helicopter Company. The members of the 187th gather in a different spot each year. This year company member Ed Lucero of Espanola invited the crew to New Mexico and to the memorial. More than 150 company members and their families gathered at the memorial Friday, Nov. 7 for a little fellowship and to hear talks by memorial staff members.
Brigadier General Kenny C. Montoya, Adjutant General of the New Mexico National Guard, also dropped by with a two-Huey flight to say a few words to the former helicopter pilots, gunners, crew chiefs and maintenance workers, and to “welcome them home.” Lucero told the vets their proud service serves as inspiration to the soldiers he now has in his command.
The 187th served in Vietnam from March 1967 through Feb. 1972. Lucero said the company now has a website and is seeking other former members of the company. Drop by www.187thahc.net for more information.
