The 27th Annual Chile Challenge US Pro GRT & Pro XCT Event kicks off Thursday (June 23) at Angel Fire Resort. With the expansion of this year’s Chile Challenge to include both the Pro GRT and Pro XCT national racing tours for the third round of the USAC Pro GRT series and the sixth round of the USAC Pro XCT, the park is expecting over 750 mountain bikers in three competitive mountain bike disciplines: Downhill, Cross-country (XC) and Short-track Cross-country (STXC).

According to a resort press release, Angel Fire Bike Park organizers have been working to create some additional benefits for riders this year including having the course follow the modified version the park built for the 2005 World Cup.

“The course we’re building for this year’s Chile Challenge is mimicking the one we custom built for elite racers in the World Cup,” said Hogan Koesis, bike park manager. “This will not only create an amazing racing opportunity for the participants but will definitely increase the excitement for spectators.”

Along with watching the races (for free), spectators can visit bike manufacturers and equipment companies to see what’s new in mountain biking, as well as learn about the many new developments at New Mexico’s premier bike resort, Angel Fire Bike Park.

The Pro GRT and Pro XCT Chile Challenge is a USA Cycling sanctioned event whose Elite category receives Union Cycliste Internationale – UCI points.
