ANGEL FIRE — Angel Fire gained a new officer Monday morning (March 2) with the swearing in of Officer John Matula from Cleveland, Ohio. Originally from Pokinoe, Pennsylvania, Matula is happy to be back in the mountains. He is also ready to get to work serving Angel Fire, “I love being a cop,” said Matula. “I am excited to get involved and learn the area.”

Matula was in the Airforce from 2003-2009, until he and his wife were expecting their first child. “I had the option to stay in, get deployed and miss the birth of my child or leave the military.” He chose to invest in his family and join the police department in Elyria, Ohio, as well as serving as an agent for the Ohio State Police. Mountains were still in his blood though and he had his eye on the Western states. When Angel Fire had an opening he immediately applied.

Police Chief McCaslin is pleased to have him on board. “There were three applicants and he was the best qualified,” said McCaslin.
