ANGEL FIRE — Shuter Library of Angel Fire is hosting a free “Meet the Author” event Thursday (June 26), 6:15 – 7 p.m. at the library. Writer John Dufresne will present readings from his works, entertain questions from the audience and sign copies of his books (available for sale at the event). Refreshments will include an appetizer buffet catered by Chef Heather Pritchard.
According to a biography on his website, Dufresne (pronounced Doo-’ Frain) is the author of five novels: “Louisiana Power & Light,” “Love Warps the Mind a Little,” (both New York Times Notable Books of the Year) “Deep in the Shade of Paradise,” “Requiem, Mass.”, and “No Regrets, Coyote” (his newest novel). He also wrote two short story collections, three chapbooks and two books on writing and creativity: “The Lie That Tells a Truth: a Guide to Writing Fiction” and “Is Life Like This? A Guide to Writing Your First Novel in Six Months” (both are used in many university writing programs). His short stories have twice been named Best American Mystery Stories, in 2007 and 2010. His play “Trailerville” was produced at the Blue Heron Theater in New York in 2005. He is a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow in Fiction. He is also a professor at Florida International University in Miami. and will be teaching a weeklong master class on the novel at the Taos Summer Writers Conference July 13–18.
“Meet the Author” is preceded by the Library’s monthly adult book discussion group, 5 – 6 p.m., which will feature Dufresne’s novel “Deep in the Shade of Paradise”. There’s still time to read the book and copies are available at the library. For more information, call 575-377-6755.
