The 13th annual “Night of 1,000 Stars” talent show, starring the best, young Taos performing artists ages 5-19, will have auditions Feb. 16-18 at Taos Youth Ballet Studio, Enchanted Plaza, 1027 Salazar Road.

Four distinctly different shows will be held live onstage March 22-24 at the Taos Community Auditorium, 145 Paseo del Pueblo Norte.

There is no cost to any participant who auditions, rehearses and performs in the show. Funds raised through ticket prices and program ads go right back into the program for the following year. ARTSOUL, Inc., a local non-profit whose mission includes producing events that are musical, theatrical and therapeutic in nature, is again sponsoring Night of 1000 Stars. Auditions for all singers, dancers, actors, poets, musicians, bands, comedians, rappers and other performing artists will take place in front of a panel of teen judges.

Auditions are Feb. 16 4-7 p.m., Feb. 17 noon-4 p.m., Feb. 18 noon-4 p.m., and Feb. 25 noon-4 p.m. for callbacks.

To have the best audition possible, each performing artist has the responsibility: To choose the best age appropriate material; rehearse chosen materials as often as possible ahead of and up to the auditions; and bring and use all instruments, props and costumes at the audition and have one’s artistic CD/iPod background track labeled and ready to go in our CD/iPod player. Singers not accompanying themselves on instruments are asked to have an instrumental background karaoke CD/iPod or accompanist with them at their audition. Singing along with another prerecorded artist’s track is not acceptable as judges cannot hear the singer if the original artist’s voice is on the background track. Dancers may have original artists singing and playing instrumental music on their background tracks.

Please note that a limited, older electronic piano is on-site at auditions, so bring your own piano if you need a higher quality piano to showcase your own or your accompanist’s skills. Artists selected to be in the show must attend one or more mandatory dress rehearsal(s) to perform in the show. All permission and liability forms must be signed for artists to be in the show.

For auditions, each individual/duo/trio are asked to prepare 1-3 numbers and each band/ensemble is asked to prepare 2-4 numbers. If an individual/duo/trio is planning to audition and potentially perform one number, each individual/duo/trio is still expected to be prepared with a variety of options in case we ask to see and hear something else. The length of one number of a soloist/duo/trio act should be 2-3 minutes while bands and ensembles have 5-8 minutes for their auditions. Usually an act only auditions one time, but sometimes we ask people to come back and show us their act a second time which is why we have callbacks. Please wear or bring what you intend to wear on stage when you audition. Artists under 18 need parents or guardians on-site to sign permission and liability forms.
