Black Lake artist Jacqui Binford-Bell is well known for her colorful paintings, jewelry, and stunning photography, among other talents. Now area residents can see what the buzz is about during a month-long showing at he new Trinidad Photography Gallery. The show kicks off Friday (May 4) with an opening reception from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery located at 319 W. Main Street in Trinidad, Colorado.

Binford-Bell is a fine arts graduate of the University of New Mexico and has worked in a variety of mediums from fiber to watercolor and now photography. Binford-Bell received her first camera at the age of seven and has been an avid photographer since but considered it a hobby until 2011 when urged by her sister she entered her first photographic competition in which she won second place (her sister took first). While she has moved up from her first Brownie camera to a Nikon D7100 technical perfection is not her goal.

“I am enchanted with the light and magic of the New Mexico landscape and I want to convey to the viewer the mood it invokes,” Jacqui said. “And frequently the painter in me comes out. But instead of paint it is pixels.”

While other photographers range widely, capturing landmarks, Ms. Binford-Bell returns to familiar scenes and subjects in the Colorado Plateau and Northern New Mexico area.
