ANGEL FIRE — Casting for Recovery tosses a line out to locals to gather for the Annual Mud Ball at Zeb’s Friday (April 17) at 6 p.m. All proceeds go to providing a free fly fishing retreat for 14 breast cancer survivors each year. The retreat is based out of the historic Villa on the Philmont Scout Ranch in early October. CFR’s goal is to raise about $20,000 to sponsor participants this fall. The Mud Ball is only a piece of the fund-raising puzzle this year. Other events such as a fishing tournament, art shows, etc. will be planned throughout the year to reach their goal. This year CFR will also be partnering with the Angel Fire Adventure race during the Fourth of July weekend.

“The Casting for Recovery program is totally free to attendees,” Mud Ball organizer Lisa Sutton said. The program reaches out to survivors across New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle, and the San Luis Valley in Colorado. The retreat has hosted about 112 participants in the eight years it has been promoting the event.

Friday’s event will feature Vanilla Pop as well as a local Celebrity Game Show and Silent Auction. There is also a raffle for a $400 gift certificate to Ojo Caliente — raffle tickets will be available at Headin’ Home Realty and are available for those able to attend the event as well as those who will not be able to attend. Events tickets are on sale for $20 at Headin’ Home Realty in Angel Fire. For more information contact Sutton at 505-603-0525
