Worms, cash and fun close 2014 Eagle Nest Fishfest

EAGLE NEST – Marking a first in FishFest history, Kyle Dehler of Eagle Nest won both first and third place in this year’s event. The 2014 edition of the FishFest saw 185 competitors who caught 42 of the 300 tagged fish and ended after nine days on Sunday (Sept. 28). Event organizer Sue Finley said that the expectation is 30 percent of the tagged fish get caught, so the event certainly exceeded expectations. Twenty-four of the fish were caught from a boat and 17 from the bank on many different kinds of lures, flies or bait.

This ‘n’ That: The giving of thanks

The city of Santa Fe has been getting some of my monthly attention. Now that I’m working on a secret project, which requires me there once a month until May 2015, I’m certainly finding my way around a bigger city. On my last trip, though the sights and delights were a welcomed change to quiet Raton, I longed to be back home. The hustle and bustle of the 3-laned major roads such as Cerillos and St. Francis seemed, to me, to be filled with discourteous and  thoughtless drivers.
