Enjoy beers, brats, oompah and more this weekend

Oktoberfest celebration takes place Oct. 6-8 in Red River

RED RIVER – Roll out the barrel this weekend (Oct. 6-8) during Oktoberfest in Red River. The event, most of which takes place in Brandenburg Park, features German food and “oompah” music, craft beer and New Mexico wines, arts and crafts vendors, a ski trip giveaway and many contests, including Miss Oktoberfest, stein-holding, brat-eating, yodeling, and chicken dancing. Admission is only $5 for the whole weekend. Attendees can also can buy a commemorative taster mug for $10 or a large stein for $20 (includes 8 tastings). Be sure to bring a photo ID.

All attending brewers will compete for the “Best Amber,” “Best Lager,” and “People’s Choice” awards.
