‘Find Your New Mexico True Park’ winners feature two local parks

On Dec. 1 Governor Susana Martinez announced the winners of the Find Your New Mexico True Park video contest, which she established to help encourage more New Mexicans to explore their state over the summer.

“New Mexicans are proud of the variety and beauty of our parks, and those who chose to participate in the contest all contributed to sharing what it means to be New Mexico True,” said Governor Martinez. “Our winners represent the best that New Mexico has to offer in adventures steeped in culture.”

Winners are:

New Mexico State Parks

First Place: Thiago Silva, Kite Snowboarding at Eagle Nest Lake

Second Place: Phillip and Janelle Johnson, Santa Rosa Lake

Third Place: Thiago Silva, Kai Visits Veterans Memorial and Surroundings

New Mexico Historic Sites

First Place: Thiago Silva, Kai Visits Fort Selden

Second Place: Lee Christiansen, Lincoln Historic Site

Third Place: Laura Dulin, Jemez Historic Site

National Park Service

First Place: Natalie Chaparro, A Day at White Sands

Second Place: Eddie Carr, Abiquiu Lake

Third Place: Thiago Silva, Kai Visits Gila Cliff Dwellings

Members of the public selected finalists in each category, and top three in each were then selected by a voting committee. Prizes include camping and outdoor equipment, GoPro cameras, overnight stays at locations throughout the state, kayak rentals, cultural passes from the Department of Cultural Affairs, annual camping and day-use passes from New Mexico State Parks and more.
