Horse racing season is here again and the most celebrated race of the season is the 143rd Kentucky Derby. In conjunction with that race, the Rotary Club of Angel Fire is sponsoring the 4th Annual Kentucky Derby Weekend Friday through Sunday (May 5 – 7). This year’s three-day event will benefit three community causes.

Proceeds from the Friday night (May 5) event, a Trifecta Party at the Garden Court in the Angel Fire Resort Hotel from 6 to 9 p.m., will benefit the Enchanted Circle Gateway Museum in Eagle Nest which is in dire need of repairs. The Trifecta Party will include a Mexican buffet, traditional derby drink specials, games and prizes. Entertaining enlightenment about all the horses included in the race – their racing odds, trainers, owners, race history – will be presented by members of the Angel Fire Rotary Club, supported by surprise special guests and race experts so race enthusiasts can make an informed trifecta prediction. Guests will also be able to preview the art that will be auctioned off the next day.

Proceeds from the big race day event on Saturday (May 6) at the Angel Fire Resort Country Club will benefit Casting for Recovery which helps with the rehabilitation of breast cancer patients. Race Day, “Run for the Roses,” will be held from Noon to 7 p.m., with a live showing of the Kentucky Derby projected on a screen in the Elements Dining Room. Enjoy discounts on special drinks including traditional Mint Juleps. The ever-popular Trifecta 50/50 raffle (one lucky winner gets half of total cash proceeds) will be held with tickets priced at $5 each or five for $20.

A buffet dinner, which will be available at 1 p.m. in Elements Dining Room, will include glazed ham, fried chicken and pecan pie in addition to other side dishes. After dinner, guests will have an opportunity to bid on items in a silent auction, and a live auction featuring art in a wide range of prices and fantastic trips. Afternoon activities include the opportunity to have a professional photo taken to commemorate the event. Door Prizes will be given. At the close of the auction and awards, dance music will be provided by a popular local band.

Finish the weekend in style with Brunch on Sunday (May 7) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at H2 Uptown. During the brunch there will be games and a raffle that will benefit the Veterans Wellness & Healing Center. Also guests including the children will be challenged to guess the number of miniature horses in a jar. It will be a weekend of fun for all.

Individual event prices are $25 for the Friday night Trifecta party, $40 for the Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday and $20 for the Sunday brunch, Brunch tickets for kids under 12 are $10. Angel Fire Rotary Club is offering a discount Combo Ticket for only $80 which includes one Trifecta Wager ticket.
