Local writer tapped for state book award

RATON — Raton writer and painter Isis M Grayling’s book “Hans von Lilyblade: A Collection of Short Stories & Poems for Children” is a finalist in the 2015 New Mexico Press Women (NMPW) Excellence in Communications Contest in the Books and Creative Writing/Children’s category.

A letter from contest chair Diane J. Schmidt stated, “Twenty judges from across the United States — including national award-winning writers, reporters, photographers and media communicators — contributed meaningful comments for each New Mexico entry. The contest was more competitive this year than ever before – entries were up 85 percent to 260 entries. And New Mexico, it was just announced, is now the largest state affiliate in the country. This means that being a finalist especially in New Mexico is an honor.”

Prize winners will be announced during the conference awards banquet April 25. Results of the National Federation of Press Women contest will be announced by email in late June and at the national conference this fall in Anchorage, Alaska.
