Former Golden Eagle RV Park owner Raymond C. Mott, Jr., 82, of Corinth, Texas, died Aug. 21, 2015, at home following a short, but brave, battle with cancer.

Mott was born March 31, 1933, to Raymond and Robbie Mott in Gainesville, Texas. He graduated from Gainesville High School and attended Texas A & M in College Station, Texas. He married Margie Newman of Vernon, Texas, July 27, 1968.

Mott sold off-shore drilling equipment for many years then retired in 1984. He also served in the National Guard for 10 years.

“We moved to Eagle Nest and, soon after, bought the Golden Eagle RV Park,” Margie Mott said in a telephone interview with The Chronicle. “We ran that until we sold it in 1995. That’s when we retired again. We loved the mountains. We loved running the park where we made life-long friends. We worked full-time and loved every second of it.”

Mott is survived by his granddaughter, Kira Mott, his grandson, Jeffrey Mott, Jr., one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Akin, and his son Jeffrey Mott.

At Raymond’s request, there were no funeral services or memorials; instead, his remains were donated for cancer research to the University of Texas Cancer Research Center. Donations may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
