One mile at a time…

An Overland summer Camps cross-country bicycling group takes a break at Eagle Nest’s Corner Market Wednesday (July (Chronicle photo by Ellen Miller-Goins)

“This trip is hard. Really hard,” touts the Overland Summer Camps website. This group of students “fueling up at Eagle Nest’s Corner Market were (so to speak) on the downhill half of a 45-day trek from Charleston, South Carolina, to Los Angeles, June 20 – Aug. 4. Their trek so far has taken them through the South — South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama to the Mississippi River — the Ozark Mountains, the Great Plains and the Rockies  — natch. They will continue through the desert Southwest and the Grand Canyon, the California desert and the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific.
