RED RIVER — The annual Red River Fishing Derby last weekend. Nine tagged fish were caught by 34 participants of varying ages.
“We were blessed with a beautiful day for the Red River Fishing Derby” said Karen Kelly of the Red River Ski and Summer Area. “One hundred pounds of fish were added to the already stocked Town Ponds in Red River for this event.”
The Carson National Forest Questa Ranger District also had a presence at the event with a booth. Shotgun Willies provided breakfast burrito delivery to participants and spectators in the early morning. “They went around the lake taking orders, then went back to the restaurant to make the burritos,” Kelly said. The Pioneer Flyer zip line hummed over the ponds throughout the day, providing entertainment for those taking a break from fishing.
The Black Diamond Grill hosted awards after the fishing was done. Rebecca Corral from Santa Fe won the 3rd place prize check of $100, Deyanarah Lopez of Las Vegas won the 2nd place prize check of $150, and Steven Migel of Taos took home the grand prize check of $250. Starr Trading Company of Red River provided door prizes.
