Senior Center needs volunteers for meal times and activities

By Michael Ritterhouse – Staff writer

EAGLE NEST – The Eagle Nest Senior Center is seeking activities team volunteers to help in their expanding outreach in the Enchanted Circle.  As the center is able to reach more and more senior citizens in Eagle Nest, Black Lake and Angel Fire there is a greater need to help those seniors live a full and active life.

In the middle of January, Kay Brown, Eagle Nest senior coordinator, will be circulating a survey to discover other services which the senior citizen population desire. The results of the survey will be given at a public hearing scheduled for February 12 at 12:15 p.m. at the Eagle Nest Senior Center.  After the public hearing the Senior Center Advisory Board will meet.

According to Brown, “We need help with helping prepare for and cleaning up from meal times, but other things would be nice too.”

Areas where the senior center needs the greatest help are fitness, transportation and technology learning and assistance.  The senior center does have some fitness equipment, but is interested in expanding their offerings to include low impact exercise classes, senior yoga, dance classes among other things. Helping the homebound or seniors who have difficulty getting around with transportation to banks, grocery shopping, and delivering meals around the community and to Taos is a meaningful way to volunteer time and enrich the lives of seniors.  Many seniors are getting more active in their use of technology and are interested in expanding their knowledge of the use and maintenance of their computers and smartphones.

If you are interested in helping out or giving your input in Eagle Nest, Black Lake or Angel Fire get in touch with Kay Brown at 575-377-2486 or Beverly Cownover at 575-377-1344.
