Sports: Angel Fire Resort tees off for golf season


ANGEL FIRE — Dust off your clubs and warm up the swing because golf season is officially here in Angel Fire as the course opens for the summer Thursday (May 5).

According to Director of Golf Jon Jaress, there are many events, tournaments and clinics planned all summer long to enhance your golfing experience at the course and he said the course came out of the winter in really great shape.

“The course, driving range, practice areas, Golf Shop and downstairs Country Club Grill all open Thursday,” Jaress said. Early season discounts will apply though “Swing Season” and golfers can take advantage of discounted golf rates are through June 16, as well as September 8 – end of the season. “There are also great Stay and Play packages available in the Lodge all summer long including pre-packaged discounts on golf green fees and cart fees,” Dave Dekema the resort’s marketing director said.

The Golf Shop has been revamped with new displays and many great new product lines Titleist, Nike, Ping, Footjoy, and more. Also new this year, The Tony Martinez School of Golf will be conducting three weekend clinics in Angel Fire in June, July and August. Hailing from Texas, Martinez is widely regarded as a leading golf instructor.

Drop by and visit the golf shop for information on this and many other programs in the works. Back again for another season in the pro shop and for instruction are Rich Smith and Joel Jaress. Beat the Pro event on Friday evening will begin at the end of May. Due to the early season, Jaress said golf carts will be allowed but golfers will have to keep them on the paths. “We’re excited for this season, it’s going to be a great year,” Jaress added.
