Springer Chamber acknowledges Oasis Motel

Sherry Goodyear — For the Comet

SPRINGER – In its quest to recognize existing businesses in Springer, the Springer Chamber of Commerce has selected the Oasis Motel to be April’s recipient of a cake. Not realizing that the Oasis was in the process of changing hands, this cake of recognition would also be a cake of welcoming Kim and Henry Apodaca as new owners/operators of the newly named Oasis H and K Motel in Springer, N.M.

The couple took over the running of the motel which is located at 1001 Railroad Avenue on Feb. 1 and are happy to report that they have been “super busy” ever since.

They have been involved in various aspects of the running of the motel since 2011 – Kim with managing the office, and Henry with doing maintenance.  When Joe Macaron, the previous owner of the motel, in business since the early 1950s, asked them if they would be interested in leasing to buy, they were well aware of all the work that running the motel would entail. The motel has sixteen rooms total – two with one double bed and fourteen with two double beds. They plan on upgrading all the rooms as time and money permit and also plan on getting local artist, Rey Gaytan to paint a new sign reflecting the change in name.

Meanwhile, Kim Apodaca has been busy creating the website for the business. “We have the main page up with a picture of the motel, and we will be adding more photos and descriptions as we go. We also have a Facebook page. Both our Facebook page and our website will soon have a ‘book it’ button for people who want to reserve a room.” Their “under construction” website can be viewed at www.oasismotelspringer.com.

Springer Chamber of Commerce President Anna Phillips presented the Apodacas with a cake on Wednesday afternoon (April 8), which was a pleasant welcome to their new business venture.

Henry Apodaca says, “Business is great. The Lord is really blessing us. He has had a big hand in making this happen. Also, we really thank the community, the chamber, and the town for supporting us.”
