Following years of preparation and updates to the Taos Regional Airport, the town of Taos announced Thursday (Oct. 11) that the Taos Regional Airport will soon begin flight service to and from Dallas-Love Field and Austin International Airports.
Taos Air will begin flying customers Dec. 20, just in time for tourists and travelers to catch some of the 2018-19 ski season at resorts in the area. One of the partners in getting the air services, Taos Ski Valley, purchased a 30-seat passenger jet and has also entered into a management agreement with Ultimate Jet Charters to fly the plane in and out of Taos.
“With the new runway in place, we are committed to positioning the Taos Regional Airport as an economic driver for Taos County and Northern New Mexico,” said Taos Mayor Daniel Barrone in a press release. “To that end, we are working with the state and our regional partners to develop and fund year-round, long-term air service. Improved accessibility to the area will provide opportunities to diversify the local and regional economy. Initiating seasonal air service with Taos Air is the first exciting step on that journey.”
The town of Taos recently completed their cross winds runway in August of 2017, completing a 30-year, $24 million vision for the town.
Flights will continue from December to March of 2019 and flights will leave from each destination every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday or holiday Monday. Tickets can be purchased through skitaos.com/taos-air.
“We’re supportive of the town’s vision for the airport as a regional economic driver and premier tourist destination,” said Taos Ski Valley CEO David Norden in a press release. “Taos Air will now offer the closest, fastest and easiest route to the Rockies from Texas, a thrilling development for skiers, snowboarders and outdoor enthusiasts from that region.”
Taos Ski Valley will be offering complimentary ground shuttle rides to and from The Blake at Taos Ski Valley for those using Taos Air.
