ALBUQUERQUE — The Raton baseball team and softball team will be represented by a pitcher and a catcher each, in the annual North-South All-star games to be played at Cobre High School in Bayard, New Mexico, Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7.
The Lady Tigers will be represented by pitcher Shania and catcher Kallista Dorrance, while the Tigers will be presented by pitcher Cam Baird and catcher Darrick Stoecker.
The Dorrance twins are multi-sport athletes who also competed in volleyball and Basketball and form a formidable battery in softball. The duo helped the Lady Tigers to a 16-11 record and an elite eight finish at the State Class AAA softball tournament.
Kallista and Shania join three Robertson players and one player each from Pojoaque Valley, West Las Vegas and Taos on the 20-team North squad.
For the Tigers, the duo of Cam Baird on the mound and Darrick Stoecker behind the plate helped Raton make the final four in the State Class AAA tourney with a 21-10 mark. The Tigers baseball squad returned to prominence after winning just 4 games in 2013. Baird also quarterbacked the Raton football team in the fall.
Cam and Darrick were the only District 2AAA players named to the 20-team North squad.
